IPL Phototherapy is a non-invasive technology that uses intense pulses of light to treat a wide range of skin concerns and imperfections— leaving your skin looking clearer, more youthful, and revitalized.
IPL Phototherapy uses focused light frequencies to remove or reduce the appearance of dark spots and broken capillaries in the skin. IPL Phototherapy is NOT a laser, it is a light source with wavelengths focused at red and brown skin pigments to reverse the affects of sun damage and the common, age-related pigmentation changes of the skin. IPL Phototherapy also improves the quality of the skin by tightening the collagen in the skin, shrinking pore size, and fighting acne and rosacea breakouts.
Acne is a complex skin condition influenced by several factors. Understanding its causes is crucial in managing and preventing breakouts.
Some key contributors to acne development include:
The downtime after IPL Phototherapy depends upon the concern and body area(s) treated. For milder concerns like acne, rosacea, treating sun-damage and age-related pigmentations on the face, the treatment strength is milder resulting in a temporary skin flush after running on a treadmill that resolves in a similar timeline. Since the skin surface is not broken, cosmetics can be applied immediately afterwards if desired.
Intense Pulsed Light Phototherapy is also very popular for removing or reducing the appearance of brown spots on the décolleté and on the back of the hands. The IPL treatment sessions for these concerns are of an intermediate downtime because the goal is to get brown pigment to turn darker, almost “peppery” as Dr. Zdinak describes them. These “peppery” brown spots subsequently flake off and the residual pigment is far lighter if not completely removed.
All sessions of IPL Phototherapy require total sunscreen and shielding of the skin from direct sunlight to maintain the results and to prevent recurrence of the pigmentation
